Y421 BJ. C. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} C. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} BY6-P28.9.23. RUDGE WHITWORTH WHEELS. Referring to BJ10/M26923 and H2/M29823, in connection with the above matter, upon receipt of Mr Royce's note I at once instructed Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} to put on order a complete set of 5 R.W. wheels to the new designs submitted through me to R.{Sir Henry Royce} On the 12th September the R.W. Co. replied to the effect that they were not in a position to make their final suggestions and although they enclosed fresh blueprints modifying their original designs, these were not final and were not to be acted upon. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} put the case before them, asked for their final proposals and an estimate in order to enable us to put on order one complete set of 5 R.W. wheels for the 20HP chassis. On September 17th the R.W. Co. again replied to one of our communications stating that they expected to despatch on Friday the 21st inst., their final proposals. Up to the present this promise has not materialised, but Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} is taking the matter up with the R.W. Co. again to urge them to let us have their final proposals. From the foregoing you will see that no time has been lost, so far as we are concerned, in attempting to put R's wishes into practice, and that the delay which is occurring at the moment is because the R.W. Co. are not satisfied with their designs. It will, of course, be obvious to you that since they are modifying their designs it will be necessary for you to place their final proposals before R.{Sir Henry Royce} to see that nothing material has been modified from their original proposals which would affect the design from R's point of view. Had the R.W. Co. decided to produce wheels to their original design the wheels in question would have been definitely on order and in hand, but of course this is not desirable from our point of view, since they apparently see some fault in the original proposals which they are desirous of eliminating by a careful attention to design before any wheels are put into production to our order. | ||
