To Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to G/Mt. c. to Ey. c. to RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/SMD.{J. Smedley} 6110. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}14/JH.17.5.38. re Johnson & Phillips H.T. Cable to specification EL.9/1. We have examined the first five reels of the above bable and find same oversize; this varies between .004" to .016" oversize on the outside diameter of the rubber covering. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/SMD.{J. Smedley} states that with the exception of one cable, (from distributor to coil which is about 3" long) the wire is unsuitable for production, as it is impossible to slide the ferrules etc. over the rubber covering. In the case of the Phantom III chassis it is impossible to thread them into the conduit. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/SMD{J. Smedley} would like to retain one reel for the distributor to coil cable. We consider that the other four reels should be returned to the makers as it is not to specification.
