Description: BENTLEY RADIATOR WITH FIXED DUMMY RADIATOR SHUTTERS, BY PASS THERMOSTAT CONTROL OF WATER TEMP. TO Drg EB.3488 (AND Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}369 MODIFICATION).
Purpose: To save cost and avoid shutter rattle complaints.
Brief Report and Remarks:
Similar type shutter assembly ran 15,000 miles satisfactorily on 3.B.IV car in France. Assembly being standardised has been stiffened up and corrected for cooling - is running on 6.B.IV 15,000 miles car and on two other expl. cars in parallel with introduction into production.
Thermostat scheme ran 15,000 miles satisfactorily on 3.B.IV car in France and was used for a period on 1st. 15 Bentley cars built - it will run on expl. car in parallel with introduction into production.
When recommended for Introduction: 1st. in M Series.

Production Position and Comments:
Fixed Dummy radiator shutters to be introduced at first chassis in 'M' series reduce factory cost of each chassis by £4.0.4d.
Tool cost of £173.2.6d. (includes Marston charge of £130.0.0d) will be recovered after producing 43 chassis, and it is understood from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.14/JH.27.1.38. that this tool charge will also cover Bentley III dummy radiator shutters.
