Standardisation of parts for a Phantom III, specifically the radiator matrix being supplied with the bottom tank dip soldered during construction.

Description: RADIATOR MATRIX SUPPLIED BY MAKERS WITH BOTTOM TANK DIP SOLDERED TO MATRIX DURING CONSTRUCTION.
Purpose: (1) To avoid presence of loose solder in bottom tank causing water pump failure. (2) To reduce cost.
Brief Report and Remarks:
Matrix fitted with bottom tank in this manner completed 15,000 miles in France on 32-EX car without any leaks or structural failures occuring.
2nd. Matrix fitted with bottom tank in this manner completed 66 hrs. on Phantom III bumper chassis without any failures.
When recommended for Introduction: As soon as possible without scrap.
Old Parts: Material £5.19.9., Labour £0.4.1., Burden £0.7.2., Total £6.11.0.
New Parts: Material £6.0.9., Bought Out, Total £6.0.9.
Decrease in Cost £ 0.10.3d. G/hb{C. E. Harcombe} 31/1/38.

Production Position and Comments:
Radiator bottom tank dip soldered to matrix by suppliers reduces Factory cost of radiator by 10/3d. and involves no tool cost.
All matrices are delivered for first 100 chassis in 'D' series and it is therefore suggested that this scheme should be introduced at 101st in 'D' series.
