X3839 To Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} from EFC. EFC3/T31.5.26. X.3839 - EXIDE BATTERY WITH THREADED RUBBER SEPARATORS. We have duly received this battery, but on standing over the week-end we have found that this has expelled some of its acid, the acid apparently having come out of the tops of some of the cells through cracks in the sealing compound. It would appear that the cause of this has been a [handwritten: incorrect] stoppage of the vents, at least we see no other explanation. We think in the circumstances the Chloride Co. would like to have back the whole set of vents, and either replace them by return, or return the vents again after they have tested out satisfactorily on their test. Accordingly we hand to you herewith the six vents and we shall be pleased if you will arrange for these to be despatched at the earliest opportunity. The matter is of some importance as it is conceivable that such faulty vents are going out on batteries supplied to chassis. We suggest it might be desirable to telephone The Chloride Co. with a view to guarding against this possibility. EFC. | ||
