X3839 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EPC. c. BJ. PN.{Mr Northey} c. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} EFC3/T28.5.26. X 4617 X3839 RE PHANTOM BATTERY. Reference your RB{R. Bowen}/M4.5.26 we understood that a scheme for the separation of the battery into two portions is in progress, and that 7-EX will be duly instructed to be so fitted. With reference to your last paragraph, it is understood that you would wish us to continue experiments with experimental Exide and P & R batteries with minor variations from standard which we have on hand at the present moment, namely - (1) Variations in the types of grids. (2) Variations in the separators, in particular trials of batteries with threaded rubber separators. We have a P & R battery with threaded rubber separators (otherwise standard) and we are just in receipt of an Exide battery similarly fitted. So far we do not consider that we have found a 'snag' in threaded rubber separators. We are desirous of making battery life tests of such separators, as we think there is a possibility of their giving a better result than the combined wood and ebonite, in our types of battery. We have already some amount of evidence in this direction. A fuller report will be made at a later date. EFC. | ||
