X.3839 - Exide Battery with Threaded Rubber Separators.

The remarks in yours EFC3/T31.5.26 were duly communicated to the Chloride Electrical Storage Co.Ltd. and we are now in receipt of their reply dated 4th inst. as follows:-

"We are in receipt of your favour of the 1st inst. "enclosing six battery vent stoppers as supplied with "6-RR5-1 battery, for which we beg to thank you.

"We very much regret to learn that the plugs in "question are defective, and on examining at these Works "we find the plugs are not such as would suit your "standard of equipment. We have ascertained that the "six plugs in question were issued during the Strike "period whilst we were short staffed, and which would "account for the plugs probably being taken from rejects.

"We regret that you should have occasion to complain "in connection with this matter, and are forwarding to you "under separate cover six plugs of our correct standard "type, free of cost."

The six vents above-mentioned will be handed to you immediately upon receipt.

We regret the Chloride Co. do not comment upon our suggestion that similar faulty vents may have been sent out on fully charged batteries sent direct to Coachbuilders to be fitted to chassis, but we assume they have satisfied themselves that this has not occurred.

Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}
