6153 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}8/JH. 11th. February, 1939. Messrs. Ferranti Ltd., Moston, Manchester.10. For the attention of Mr. G.A.Hall. Dear Sirs, We have now tested the set, in which a tone control is mounted, and consider this feature necessary. We would like this arrangement fitted to any further sets supplied for our use. The Ferranti set is the most reliable unit we have yet tested, but it has one serious disadvantage in respect to weight and bulk. Our people strongly criticise it on this point. We can save 3 lbs. by using a single fixing plate for mounting purposes, the jiffy plates as supplied are much too heavy and we shall not require these with future sets. We would like a single fixing plate, similar to that used by 'Motorola' or Philco. We should be very interested in a single unit set as this would facilitate the installation and probably save quite a lot of weight. We shall be pleased to have your comments on this suggestion. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
