X.3513 EFC. from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [struck through] c. R.{Sir Henry Royce} [struck through] BY5-P7.7.21. I am sending you herewith a piece of "Elo" moulded insulation. We would like you to arrange for a spark to flash across the surface from our Battery Ignition, in order to see what happens to the material, as Mr Royce is of the opinion that Bakelite and all similar materials, if a spark did flash across, was liable to leave a carbon track as a result in the path of the spark, which would allow a lower voltage to cause a breakdown after such a track had been produced.
