Re. Car. No. GBT.24.

We thank you for your Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}8/H.11.7.32.

We note that you are satisfied with this silencer, but we are afraid that as it is only a piece of experimental apparatus it would not be satisfactory to fit it to GBT-9 car which we use for propaganda purposes. If, however, you would particularly like to run one for reference purposes we could arrange to make you one up in the near future.

You are correct in assuming that this silencer effects a marked improvement in performance in cars of the GBT Series. On these cars approximately 9 HP. is lost in the silencer at 60 MPH., the new silencer reduces this loss to about 4 HP.; it should also improve the acceleration above 30 M.P.H.

With regard to Standardisation, we have fitted one of these silencers on 19-EX, now running in France. To date it has done 5000 miles. The conditions are very severe, because the Phantom puts twice as much HP. through it as the 25 HP. If it completes 10,000 miles without failure we ought to be in a position to circulate a Standardisation Sheet.

Will you please get Cricklewood to take the experimental silencer on GBT-24 and replace its own which we returned with the car. We should like to call for it on Thursday the 14th.inst., as we shall have a car returning from Brooklands on that day.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}
