STANDARDISATION SHEETS.

The present form of standardisation Sheets, and the procedure for issuing them, is open to many objections, e.g.:-

(1) The sheet is not designed to suit the new organisation of the Engineering Department, under which a sheet should not be issued until complete consideration has been given to designs, experimental tests and customers' requirements.

(2) At the moment more than one sheet may be issued to cover interdependent schemes, e.g. raised engine mounting and cantilever pedals. All alterations involved by a modification should be dealt with on one sheet, so that the people concerned know the whole story before they agree to the standardisation.

(3) Not sufficient consideration is given to the cost of tools. Such questions as whether existing tools will modify; whether tools have already been made for experimental pieces; cost of patterns etc. are not taken into account. In future RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} will be responsible for this figure.

A further source of inaccuracy in the present estimates is that whereas the cost of the pieces is always based on 100% tooling, this does not always apply to the tool estimates.

(4) There is no adequate provision on the sheet for production comments, such as :-

(a) scrap involved if the parts are standardised when recommended by the Engineering Department,
