306. Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFm{Anthony F. Martindale} (for depot sheet) c to Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} c to By c to RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFm{Anthony F. Martindale}9/M.16.2.37. Phantom III Brake Ferodo Rivets. In view of the trouble that has been experienced with these rivets failing, which has caused us to change from brass rivets to copper ones on production, will you please change the rivetting of every Ph.III to come into a service station to bring it up to the latest production standard, i.e., sunk tinman's headed copper rivets. We understand that Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} has changed the rivets on 34 Ex without removing the Ferodo from the shoes, by taking out half the rivets, redrilling the holes in the Ferodo and rivetting up again before chipping out the remaining rivets. This should save time in bedding. Any cars to come in with F.B.A. (brass bonded) linings should have these changed to SS{S. Smith}805, or as it is now called, Ferodo SZ, which is the latest production material. In view of the fact that you have never seen cases of failure of these rivets yourself, we think it unnecessary to call in every car in rotation. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} | ||
