Engine Gears.
20HP. and 40/50HP.

Although the Test Dept. can just be kept going with chassis with quiet Engine Gears, it is only done at great expense and trouble.

So far this week we have received 17, 20HP. and 8, 40/50HP. chassis for Engine Gears to be quietened, which Engines have once had their Gears quietened, but which have developed noise in course of testing.

We are now beginning to get results of the wheels with S.D. metal and the annealed bronze wheels on the 20HP. chassis, and I regret to say both these wheels are developing noise after once being quietened. I do not yet know how the proportion compares.

We have not yet results of the YES. metal - not having had sufficient through.

It will be realised that if we are to get out of the present unsatisfactory and costly position we shall want help and guidance, and I would recommend as one test the elimination of all cast metal wheels in both the 20HP. and 40/50HP. chassis.

If anyone can help by recommendation or experiments we should be thankful.
