X4081 To Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Mr. Brock. c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EFC1/T13.6.23. X.4081 - R.R. GOSHAWK SWITCHBOX. After the assembly of the internal switchbox mechanism, and previous to fitting in case and subsequent final test, as given by our Test Specification dated 28.8.22 for this unit, inspection should be made that the switch contacts are working correctly mechanically. It should be noted that each of the switch contact plungers on entering in between each of the four pairs of insulated contacts, causes a definitely observable divergence of the blades of these insulated contacts. Such an instruction would appear rather unnecessary except that we have experienced a case on one of our experimental cars,(which we have handed to you for rectification) where one of the dynamo contacts has been uncertain in operation and where examination of the switch contacts, including those other than the one which has failed, has on this particular switchbox indicated that this point has not/received sufficient attention.
