Motion and design alternatives for the 'V' series accelerator pedal.

X.8470 Referring to the question of the motion of the accelerator pedal on this series, Mr. Royce instructs us not to do any more, but to ask you to set out the motions with a view to deciding on the length of the lever on the accelerat- or pedal spindle. Mr. Elliott has set out Lec. 2090., shewing the throttle lever reduced in length to .875 and thereby gain- ing pedal motions the same as those on Mr. Royce's car here. Though this is suitable for a 'D' steering, we do not think it will do for 'B' as we believe no higher upward position of the accelerator pedal is permissible on 'B'. On account of this discrepancy we should like HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to say whether it would be practicable to have the motion shewn on Lec. 2090. on 'D' and 'C', and the existing 40/50 motion on 'B'. Mr. Royce likes the longer motion because of the reduced effect of road vibrations on the foot, and we should like to do this if possible. We think Sales may have an objection to a different pedal motion on the different types of cars. If it is found impracticable, an alternative is to retain the existing 40/50 pedal motions in all cases, and we should be glad if Derby would set out the diagram of move- ments giving the lengths of levers called for, and send it to us for our remarks.
