Mr Barrington [Strikethrough] Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Mr Wormald. [Strikethrough] ----------------- Phantom III Air Silencer. ----------------- We send you herewith LeC.5246 of a modification to the air silencer end plate fixing on the above chassis. A certain amount of trouble has been experienced with the fixing of the end plate as the set screws do not pull up solidly on to the "Hank" bushes until the felt has been compressed, with the result that the resistance of the felt has tended to cause the "Hank" bushes to pull out. The modification shown on the scheme consists of replacing the set screws with collar studs with collars of sufficient thickness to enable the end cover to be pulled up solidly without compressing the felt. This modification, which should go on to production as soon as possible, utilises all existing parts with the exception of the set screws. The clearance between the outside diameter of the felt and the lip on the end cover has also been increased as it tends to get trapped and prevents the end cover fitting properly. E/PSN.
