GOSHAWK STEERING COLUMN. X4264

Mr. Royce is very anxious to have results from the steering column support experiment. That shewn on N.sch. 1303 will probably take some time to prepare on account of the alterations to the crankcase. Do you think it is possible that you could temporarily construct an arrangement like this for the purposes of bumping? It might be possible for instance to take an old crankcase and attach this steering column support by means of patches.

If this cannot be done Mr. Royce suggests that for the sake of finding out whether we are on the right track at all, we should take the present steering support and disconnect it from the frame, the other end namely that attached to the crankcase, having a flange piece brazed to the tube so as to make a permanent fixing, then a tie rod would be run from the end of the horizontal support tube to the neighbourhood of the dashboard, similar to the scheme shewn on N.sch. 1303. This would not of course do to send cars out but Mr. Royce thought that if it were bumped the results would give an indication of whether we were on the right track at all, and enable us to standardise N.sch. 1303 at any rate up to the point of ordering material.

Would you please let us know what you think you can do about this?
