X7010 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG14.11.28. 'SS{S. Smith}' CRANKSHAFT LUBRICATION. X.7010 X.7980 It has been decided to employ the same type crankshaft lubricating system as used on the Phantom. We shall therefore depart from the inserted oil feed pipes in the webs and use the capped journals and crank pins. The front end of the crankshaft will also need modification to accommodate the standard Phantom spring drive. The crankshaft bearings will also be similar to the Phantom with the oil grooves. Tubular rods and grooveless bearings will be treated as experimental for the time being. We should therefore like the necessary modifications carried out to reproduce the standard Phantom crankshaft lubricating system on the 'SS{S. Smith}' engine as it is in this form it will go into production. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
