x719. Expl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}6/MJ. Sept: 17th.1929. Ferodo Ltd., Sovereign Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Field. Some time ago you shewed us some clutch plates having the fabric moulded on the periphery. This appeared to be a more efficient job than fitting the fabric on to the plate. We are sending you under separate cover, two of our clutch plates in the soft state. We should like you to mould some friction material on to these plates. We attach a drawing of the clutch as it is at present arranged. There would be no difficulty about running the clutch with a slightly thinner fabric discs. We think you can reduce the amount of friction material, because the heat should get away from the surface better when it is mounted on the driven disc. Also we wish to keep the moments of inertia of the plate down to the minimum. We leave the quality of the friction material to you. We suggest you give us two different varieties to try. We will do any slotting of the discs should it be found necessary when we have had the clutch on test. Yours faithfully, For Rolls-Royce Ltd. | ||
