C. to B. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} CENTRALISED CHASSIS LUBRICATION. X3806

DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M17.5.28.

As now proposed this consists of the following units:

(A) Front axle, including the lower end of the axle control damper.

(B) Rear axle, but not including the torque sphere or universal joint.

(C) The bulk of the remaining lubrication points, such as the spring anchorages, brake gear, universal joint, etc.

(D) A few special points which are not included in the main system partly because they are difficult to reach without the use of coils, and partly because they need lubrication extremely seldom. This includes the fan, and points on the engine like the dynamo, magneto, etc, and starter motor.

It is intended that the Enots gun shall be applied to the nipple on the front and rear axles approximately every three months, though we hope the period may actually be extended.

In the case of the special points included under (D) lubrication is still less frequent. We believe that now the fan is instructed to be lubricated every 6 months this would be approximately the period of the other points.

As regards the lubricating points under (C) these are coupled up to one Enots nipple, the intention at the moment being to dispense with the Bijur pump. In this case the Enots gun is applied rather more frequently, possibly once a month, the exact period to be determined by experiment.

We attach herewith a list of the lubrication points with numbers taken off your F77877., shewing what has happened to each one.

With this list, and the drawings and instructions we are sending you today, we consider that we have sent you all the instructions that you will require for fitting up 12-EX.
