To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BJ. c. to WDY. X4117 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG9. 8. 26. PHANTOM COMPLAINTS. X 8770 Replying to BJ9/E5. 8. 26. giving the list of 12 points which Sales men consider should be improved. The following is the Experimental Dept's information on these points :- (1) PHANTOM SUSPENSION. When we have done the best we know as regards spring strength and shock dampers, we are not satisfied with the Phantom suspension. We have gone to the limit as regards weak springs. The only hope we have got of improving the suspension is on EAC-7 where we use semi elliptic springs and take the spare wheels off the side and put them on the back, and reduce the weight of the engine. From tests we have made so far this should give us a definite improvement. We strongly recommend that we go on with the suggestion of arranging temporarily the Lancia form of front springing on the front of a Phantom. We are more convinced than ever after further experience with the Lancia that it has definite advantages. (2) EXPLOSIONS IN SILENCER. We are sending a report shewing the recent work we have done on this point. It is going to be a very difficult matter to entirely cure. As regards the governor control on the Phantom. We do not know how to make the Phantom governor control as good as the Silver Ghost. contd :- | ||
