Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of June 13th.

For policy reasons we should like to treat this steering for the Bentley as we did for the 40/50 i.e. supplied on sale or return. Naturally we anticipate that we shall pay you for it having tried it.

We note your remarks regarding the control tubes going through the steering gear. There is no difficulty about this, the confusion originally arose because our controls swing up and down in the main tube, whereas yours do not.

The 7 1/4" drop arm will be despatched to you on Saturday.

We have had considerable discussion here on the merits and demerits of the Marles Weller gear, and whilst we personally favour the Marles Weller which we have already tried, there is a strong feeling amongst our designers that the full Marles is a better mechanical job. We are therefore bound to try a complete Marles steering to satisfy them on this point.

The steering you recommended for the Phantom was L7 TYPE RH.{R. Hollingworth} but we found that there were very definite difficulties in getting this steering on to our car with its low carburetters. We therefore think that for the time being it is impractical to try a full Marles steering on the Phantom. In any case, however, any new type of
