X-1180 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}21/KW. 4th February, 1936. J.N. Longley Esq., Chief Chemist, Messrs. Ferodo Ltd., Chapel-en-le-Frith. Dear Mr. Longley, To confirm what I said on the telephone this morning. We would like any further supplies of S.5805 to be soaked at 250/C. for not more than 5 minutes before despatch from your Works. We are able to do this as S.5805 has not been standardised. As regards F.B.A. (brass bonding) which we use on 20/25 HP. cars and Phantom III cars, we cannot have production supplies treated in this way without test, but we will find out if this appreciably alters the length of life of the lining on the road, and then let you hear further. I have an idea that the age of the lining may have an effect on this permanent expansion, as the M.R. and B.Z. which did not expand much were old stock, and the F.B.A. and S.5805 new. With kind regards. Yours truly, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
