JNL/IS. A.{Mr Adams} F.{Mr Friese} Martindale Esq., Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Mr Martindale, We thank you for your telephone message of the 4th February, and your confirmatory letter of the same date. We regret that this feature of expansion under high temperature should have caused you any inconvenience, and agree that we might have warned you of it. We have taken immediate steps to ensure that all current orders and all future orders for S.5805 shall be free of this feature, which, as explained over the telephone, is indirectly the result of consolidating each segment with a pressure of 250-tons. Of the reduction obtained by such pressure, a certain percentage is "unwilling" and there is a spring back when heat is applied (in braking) without this enormous pressure. We have five orders on hand at the moment, all of which we will guarantee to be free from the feature, and we give details of these orders so that there may be no mistake as to which have been treated and which not:- 12 liners to Part No. GB.752 12 " " " " GB.750 24 " " " " GB.1945 24 " " " " GB.1933 8 " 15-3/8" long. We can see that if this feature is beginning to trouble you, we must learn more about it in detail. Yours very truly, FERODO LIMITED, MLongley Chief Chemist. | ||
