ON VISIT OF MR. BASTOW TO MESSRS. BORG & BECK ON JANUARY 29TH 1931. Present: Messrs. Shinkins, Higgs & Godfrey of Borg & Beck. Mr. Bastow of Rolls-Royce. 10" Clutch Discs. Mr. Bastow pointed out that the occurrence of transmission rattle is dependent on the quantity of friction in the clutch disc. He also showed curves demonstrating that even on new discs, there were wide variations in friction. After discussion, Messrs. Borg & Beck agreed to supply three sample discs all of which are to have spaces .005" thicker than standard. The first disc is to have one shim only (the standard arrangement). The second will have two shims both on the same side of the hub flange and the third, one shim on each side of the hub flange (two altogether). 16" Twin-Plate Clutch. To make dismantling possible, Messrs. Borg & Beck agreed to move the dumbell splines in the bore of the disc carrier to the end. 14" Single Plate Clutch. Messrs. Borg & Beck supplied a drawing of a 14" single disc clutch so that Messrs. Rolls-Royce could see what modifications were necessary for a steering application. ************ | ||
