1110 5th February, 1941. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/RH.{R. Hollingworth} Your ref: Sales 2/AMS/LP.{Mr Lappin} Messrs. Borg & Beck Co., Ltd., Tachbrook Road, LEAMINGTON SPA. SECRET. For the Attention of Mr. Shinkins. Dear Sirs, Thank you for your letter of January 30th. Tank Clutches. We have your views on the A.22 tank through Mr. Bastow. We would point out that the power ratio is just half that of our proposed vehicle and this is bound to have an adverse effect on the clutch. Were we not contemplating employing synchro-mesh, the use of the 18" twin-plate now that you have reduced its diameter would be the obvious course. However, in order to get the best possible gear change, we must employ a clutch driven member of which has a minimum possible moment of inertia. Tests however, will prove whether the 16" twin-plate is out of the question. Car Clutches. We are definitely concerned about the inconsistency of the damping in the standard 10" Borg & Beck plates. It appears to us that there is no basic difficulty in improving this feature and we hope that you will co-operate with us in getting the trouble rectified. Yours faithfully, | ||
