Re: Chassis Complaint Conference. The agenda comprised many ideas that were of no value, as modifications have in most cases dealt with the features mentioned. (1) The item of more complete statistics of chassis troubles being required means a mass of figures of no value and is misleading, in so much that approximately 50% are the Depots own Testers' complaints and not customer's. This I am aware raises a controversy i.e. the Depots may be blamed for not doing certain jobs other than the Owner's complaints which may be complained of afterwards. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} are supplied with a mass of information of faults as they arise, which up to the present has been as much as they could deal with. The supplying of mass figures as stated would only tend to be confusing. On the Phantom III, the only items that have not been dealt with by modifications are:- (1) Hand brake inadequate. (2) Condition of 1st. series Phan.III crankcase due to Heldite. (3) The over-heating in traffic should have been a policy question, as it is not as yet a serious complaint. On the 25/30 HP. there are no items that have either had a Depot Sheet or that has not been reported and investigation being carried out. On the Bentley the rear axle is the one item that is still giving trouble, with no known cure. The question of dealing with engine bearing is a debatable one, and is a question of policy.
