- 2 - HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/VS.{J. Vickers}3.6.37. Crankshaft LOP.E.86189. Extra and opposite hole drilled in each journal. The crankshaft journals and pins had good surfaces and wear was normal. 10 ozs. of "sludge" were recovered from the crankpins. The oil used was "Castrol X.L." The Hoffmann 125 pilot bearing was in good condition, very little wear having taken place in the races. The float was .0045". The bearing housing and the front end of the clutch shaft were rusty, and the bearing itself was dry. Oil Pressure Filter LOP.E.87812. LeC.5338-5342. Additional Filter Element. This was badly buckled as shown on Ex.I.170. It was also thickly covered with "sludge". Cylinder Liners E.87890. Nos. 1, 3 and 5 on "A" side, Nos. 2, 4 and 6 on "B" side produced in I/C. cast by R.R. All other liners standard Sheepbridge Centricast. As will be seen from the chart herewith, Ex.I.173, there is very little difference in wear between the two types of liner. Pistons LOP.E.86708. E.87347. Pistons with Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}187 "L" section 2nd compression ring. All particulars of piston-profiles, ring-grooves, ring thickness and size are given on Ex.I.172 herewith. Cylinder Heads (Four Port) ex Phantom III No. 13. LOP.E.88261. LeC.4729-40-63. These were in good condition. All valves seats were good and wear in the valve-guides was normal apart from B.3. and B.11. continued. | ||
