Contd:-E- (1) Noisy shock dampers. These are J.III type and are now being replaced by standard 20/25 HP type. (2) Crankshaft damper not satisfactory. (3) Brake thump. (4) Petrol Pump failures at low speeds. (5) Clutch jaggers. (6) Starter motor failing to turn engine. (7) Exhaust booms. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} asked how soon can we have made say six further Peregrine chassis which will include the necessary modifications such as RR. carburetter, new head, new high speed crankshaft and crankcase modified to suit. W.Or. said that he estimated that we could complete the first of these in about three months and the remainder would follow on rapidly. A decision as to whether these are to be put in hand will be given by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} after the interview with R.{Sir Henry Royce} on Tuesday next July 19th. Item 2 on agenda. Re Bensport - position generally. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} explained the position of design generally and Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} remarked that the job seemed to be backward and if rapid progress is not made in the near future we are in danger of letting slip the Bentley goodwill and ready made market for this type of car. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} exhibited a drawing LEC.3146 shewing the side position of the supercharger and explained the good features of the arrangement. Item 3 on agenda. Re Radiator Tests. Hal/AD4.7.32, and what we propose to do in the future. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that J.III, Peregrine and Bensport will start off with Harrison type radiator blocks. Item 4 on agenda. Shock dampers generally - controllable type. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/AD8.7.32, Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/AD8.7.32. May 1st E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} reported that R.{Sir Henry Royce} has now approved the proposals put up for consideration for controllable shock dampers, and the matter is now in HY{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}'s hands. What type are these? Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} stated that all the design work on automatic or hand control has been done on the J.III type of damper and not on the 20/25 type, which is more satisfactory in use than the J.III. contd. | ||
