MINUTES OF CONFERENCE AT DERBY ON THURSDAY JULY 14th, 1932. Present - Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} whole time. PN.{Mr Northey} and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} chassis items only. Rg.{Mr Rowledge} Aero items only. CHASSIS. Item 1 on agenda. Position of "Peregrine" generally and action for the immediate future. Engine. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} stated that a new head was necessary and it was about to be issued. Also a new crankshaft is in hand which will be safe at the high revolutions which this engine will run. The crankcase and cylinder block will require modification to suit the new head and new crankshaft. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said the RR. carburetter for this engine is being designed but is not yet completed. Gear box. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} enquired if there was any technical objection to using the gear box as fitted to the experimental Peregrine instead of waiting for and adopting the Bensport gear box. It would save considerable time to adopt the existing box and the first speed could be modified and made satisfactory. It also seems desirable to retain the servo on this model. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} replied that he had the impression that the existing Peregrine box was rather too highly stressed and exceeded the stress of the 20/25. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} said that he had taken out the stress figures and that the Peregrine was not worse than the 20/25 as regards stress. It was decided that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will carry out dynamometer tests to prove out the gear box. Main faults. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reported that the main faults noted on test up to the present are:- Contd- | ||
