FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS FOR 25 HP. CAR.

At a conference held in Derby on Thursday 1st Sept.

present - Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. PN.{Mr Northey} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Ey. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}

The future policy of the 25 HP. was discussed. A memo from C. was read which put forward Sales views. It was agreed that when we place the Peregrine on the market it will be essential to have an improved 25 HP. car.

The unanimous decision arrived at was that we wish to take advantage of the improved designs and cheaper construction of the J.3 chassis and therefore we should not attempt to bring forward the present 25 HP. car fitted with J.3 engine but when we make the change to change over completely to J.3.

One point on J.3 which Sales consider would be a mistake, is to take it out of the 25 HP. class and put it into the 28 HP. which would mean practically a 30 HP. class. They consider that the prospects are so bright in the 25 HP. class that we should retain the same rating. It was agreed therefore, that we should make the J.3 with 3.250 bore instead of 3.4. This means that the relative capacities of the engines would be as follows :-

Present 25 HP. 3670 cc.
Proposed 25 HP. 4080 cc.
J.3 4464 cc.

The only exktensive alteration this would mean is that we would put in liners which were .075" thicker and pistons to suit. We are arranging to do this on the present J.3 car. Everyone was agreed that J.3 with this modification would provide a very satisfactory improved 25 HP. car to take the place of the present one. We should also have the advantage that if at any future time the increased capacity was required it would be easily available.

The intention therefore, is to push ahead with J.3 on these lines and it is hoped that this car will be ready at the same time as Peregrine.
