With regard to the modified coring of the cylinder block (ECD.871) to simplify the casting of cylinder blocks as requested by RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Vs.{J. Vickers}, we consider that this should be run experimentally and approved before a Standardisation Sheet is issued. We appreciate that this is desirable, but considering that no trouble is being experienced with the existing design, we should at least run some tests on the bed, also 15,000 miles as from experience the most unexpected troubles crop up. In the meantime, however, we are urging blocks and heads incorporating the modifications for our trial. The case of the cylinder head is different where seat cracking is experienced on the production job, and although not completely tested experimentally, the new head has to be adopted for production, this incorporating a similar construction to previous models which were free from this trouble.
