| GRY{Shadwell Grylls} To Sft.{Mr Swift} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Ms. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Self-aligning Brake Equaliser Assembly - Bentley. Confirming our conversation with respect to the amount of fitting required in dealing with the brake equaliser assembly on the Bentley chassis, and the exceedingly difficult nature of this fitting, we now send you herewith our proposals for entirely altering the problem with but very little alteration to the parts involved by using self-aligning bearings for carrying the shafts, mounting the hand brake equaliser on two bearings only, and using an adjustable support for the centre bearing of the foot brake equaliser. The difficulties which we believe this scheme solve exist on all of our chassis as we know, but were intensified on the Bentley owing to cobbier brackets being used which were much more difficult to set. N. Sch. 3887 is, therefore, applicable in principle to the P.2. and 20/25 brake equaliser assemblies. We should be glad if you would look over this scheme and say if you agree as to whether it overcomes entirely the difficulties you demonstrated. We should be also interested if you could tell us how much the saving is likely to be. With regard to the adjustable support for the foot brake equaliser, we have chosen the means of adjustment by packings for varying the centres, and swivelling around the tube for alignment instead of using some form of frictional grip, so that once the assembly is made it will never slip or alter. This condition we consider essential in the case of brake gear on which so much depends. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
