GWV BENTLEY 3 1/2 LITRE - ENGINE BEARINGS Cost of supplying and fitting a set of new white metal main bearings during an R.20 engine clean, on the assumption that the latter operation (R.20) is chargeable to the owner. A.{Mr Adams} OPERATIONS: Remove engine from frame, Remove crankshaft and bearings, Clean and examine all dismantled parts, Remove oil plugs from crankshaft, clean out crankshaft, lightly polish the journals, re-erect the oil plugs, Measure crankshaft journals for wear, S/F a set of new main bearings in whitemetal with RR.56 liners, Reamer out bearings to suit crankshaft journals, Re-assemble the engine, Carry out oil test, Replace engine in frame, Carry out necessary road test. Total cost: Frs.2605 = £.24.16.0. The above figure is only for fitting new main bearings at the same time as carrying out an R.20 engine clean and adjustments chargeable to the owner, and does not include such work as truing up or re-grinding the crankshaft, attention to slipper drive, etc... B. SUPPLEMENTARY WORK that may be found necessary when changing the main bearings: S/F a set of new drilled up type connecting rods with Hall's metal big ends and RR.56 liners Total cost: Frs.2726 = £.25.19.6. The above price of £25.19.6 includes the cost, in Paris, of the 6 new connecting rods, complete. Also the cost of transport and customs duty. The dismantled rods would be returned to Works for re-conditioning and, when re-conditioned, would be 100% value for stock, which therefore automatically considerably lessens the final cost of this job (B.). Total cost of A.{Mr Adams} & B. jobs: Frs.5331 = £50.15.6. Sr/VA. | ||
