Instructions for removing the front suspension springs.

FRONT END SUSPENSION.

General Description.

The front wheel suspension consists of horizontal coil springs, enclosed in a casing which forms both the spring housing and hydraulic shock absorber body. The stub axles are carried by four radius arms, set at a trailing angle. Needle roller bearings are used throughout the front suspension.

Removing Front Springs.

To remove the springs proceed as follows:-

(1) Remove plug G Fig. and drain out oil. Castrol 'F'. Approx. 4 pts.

(2) Remove top rubber buffer and place lifting tool Ex.28506, in position.

(3) Jack up front of car and remove road wheels.

(4) Disconnect and remove all oil pipes to bearings at Outer end of triangle levers.

(5) Disconnect cross steering tubes, and front brake rod at wheel end.

(6) Remove bolt A at outer end of lower triangle levers, and clamping bolts B and C.

(7) Remove bearing housing retaining bolts, and withdraw housings D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} complete with needle rollers.

(8) Withdraw fulcrum pin E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Axle pin and brake gear may then be removed from chassis.

(9) Raise upper triangle levers clear of end hole H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Insert spring compressor HB.{C. E. Harcombe}1731, Ex.29190, Ex.28510, into screwed bore of piston and screw up to relieve all tension on main spring housing nuts.
