To BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from ROY {Sir Henry Royce} a. {Mr Adams} to Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Ms. 46429 ROY {Sir Henry Royce} 2/MG31.12.29 ----------------- I do not know if we can do anything to curtail the use of Firth's Staybrite Steel in our manufacture. It is certainly extremely expensive, as not only are we faced with the abnormal initial cost, i.e. 2/3d to 2/9d per lb, but in many cases, if they do not happen to have the actual widths we require available, Firths are making us pay extra for shearing to size. We have a particularly flagrant case now of Strip purchased for Piece Nos. E.79300/1/2 } E.79299 } Exhaust Laggings E.79308 } E.79309 } where we are debited with 6 Cwts.2 qrs. 2 lbs @ 2/9d per lb the actual weight we received being: 4 Cwts.3 qrs. 8 lbs i.e., for this strip we are charged no less than 3/8 1/2d " " ----------------- and although the matter has been taken up with Firths on various occasions, we have had little or no satisfaction.
