ALTERATIONS IN RELATION TO OUTPUT. 40/50 "V" SERIES.
------------------------------------------------

The question has arisen as to whether I am doing right in enforcing your dictum that no alterations must be considered for "V" Series unless:-

a/- The present scheme endangers life, is likely to fail, or:-

b/- Whether it affects any of the following four items:-

1. Firing in exhaust.
2. Overheating of water.
3. Stiffness of steering.
4. Harshness of front springs.

The point at issue is that WW. recently discovered that instrument board as arranged for C & D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} was rather low, and not readily visible, and they accordingly asked for it to be altered. I pointed out we had something like 100 dashboards drilled to old scheme, but as modification consisted in using one existing drilling of dash (B.type), for all three types of steering instead of two positions as before, namely,

a/- One position for "B" type.

b/- One position suiting either "C" or "D".

I was prepared to drill no more C. & D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} positions and use "B" only after drilled dashboards were used up, and this I have done.

EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} has to-day emphasized the need, in his opinion, to modify chassis at once. My reply has been "No! CJ. has been clear and definite in instructing me to resist such alterations, and I cannot agree to do it." The matter has gone before Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} as well, and is not agreed to as coming within the definition of alterations I should consider. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, however, wishes me to raise the matter with you, hence this note.
