X 607 To D/BP. from EFC. EFC1/T13.12.22. X.607 - FAULTY EXIDE BATTERY - 20 TW C.A. HARTLEY In answer to your D/BP/HF{H. W. Frost - Coachwork Inspector}20/E12.12.22, we now understand the position of this battery and agree that the circumstances are such that the customer should not be expected to pay. It was ascertained (see ECM/GGW 17.6.22 and EFC2/T16.6.22) that the Chloride Co's Depot were in error in informing the customer that the battery was being overcharged, and that though in the absence of this error the customer might be expected to pay half the cost of replacement, actually in view of the error we are now of the opinion that the Exide Company should be asked to contribute the other half. I am still of my previous opinion that technically the failure of the battery can only be considered 50% our own responsibility. It may not, however, be considered worth while, from a policy point of view, approaching the Exide Company for this small amount, but the decision on this point we must leave in other hands. EFC. | ||
