EFC. COPY WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}121. 17.12.26. WATFORD E06 MAGNETO No.94201 WITH ENCLOSED ARMATURE TUNNEL. We received this magneto from Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} with a berval report to the effect that it was much quieter in operation than the standard E06. We have now run this magneto on the bench, and results or observations confirm this report. The gears which are made of bakeiite are practically noiseless and the sleeve noise is almost totally eliminated. The contact breaker however still remains comparatively noisy and this noise would probably be reduced by using cams like the Lucas or B.T.H. This magneto we suggest should be placed on an experimental chassis, possible 10-EX, to ascertain if noise develops with use on chassis. We consider that this idea is better than the thicker aluminium armature plate, as in this case the sleeves are more rigidly enclosed, but the disadvantage is the increased weight; we suggest that the whole casting could be made of aluminium as in the Lucas.
