To Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} from EFC. c. BY Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} c. Mr. Payne. X8792 EFC3/T23.3.27. WATFORD EO6 MAGNETO WITH ENCLOSED ARMATURE TUNNEL We have received the four magnetos and have noted that these are all standard machines with the exception of the tunnel, i.e. they are none of them fitted with all-bakelite gears or plain distributor bearings, as in the case of the one previously received by us for experiment. These four magnetos have been handed over directly to Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} and we shall await his report on these before we can arrive at any decision as to whether two of them should be altered experimentally to all bakelite gears. If they can be considered to be sufficiently silent without the all bakelite gears, arrangements can be made to consider these part of standard production, i.e. if BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} confirms that he has agreed to this course. Alternatively it might be arranged that one of the present standard machines be altered to all bakelite gears for experimental test on that item, it being remembered that we already have one magneto on experimental test on a car which does contain both the armature tunnel and the all bakelite gears, also plain distributor bearings. One of the points to be noted about the enclosed armature tunnel is that it increases the weight of the magneto by approx. 1 lb. In this connection we are not quite clear why it should not be possible to use an aluminium casting for this tunnel instead of bronze. EFC. | ||
