Periods.
The periods in engine are slight. The one at 10 to 14 m.p.h. is not now so noticeable. We consider it quite normal. On retard from 50 m.p.h. to 40 m.p.h., the engine is still inclined to be a bit rough, but this we should not consider to be abnormal.

Engine gears.
These, as previously reported, are normal. We have experienced no rattles from same.

Engine case.
We have had a slight oil leak develope from water pump drive bearing. The oil leak is working through the serrated nut, which we found could be tightened up slightly after taking locking ring out, which has been locked up in a fresh position. Otherwise the engine case is free from oil leaks.

Water pump & drive.
to L.O.P. E.70527. The water pump is fitted with standard Lion packing.
We have had no trouble with pump, & it has been free from any water leaks. The drive is still O.K.

Controls. to L.O.P. E.72843 & L.E.C. 2118.
These are still in a good condition.

Induction pipe & carburetter.
We have had no mechanical troubles with the carburetter. The filter was taken out & examined. A small piece of fluff was adhering to same. Otherwise we consider it to be in a clean condition. The induction pipe is still in a good condition. We have had no trouble with loading up during the continuation of the test, but engine has still to be run for some time first thing in the morning before even carburation is obtained.

Calorised exhaust down pipe, E.72868/9/70.
We have experienced the same trouble with the front exhaust down pipe as previously reported, i.e. that the exhaust pipe is distorting to such an extent that the pipe becomes dis-jointed at the sliding joint. This will have to be attended to. We suggest that the sliding joint be so made that a flange could be turned over on the exhaust pipe, so that it could not come out of the joint. From examination of the pipe, we believe that the distortion is taking place just below the joint of the exhaust box, as the pipe when distorted fouls the front end of the engine guard where same passes through, whereas it should be central. The condition of the pipes is good.

Exhaust boxes.
The exhaust boxes have not deteriorated since our last report. As previously reported the two centre lugs were broken off, & during the continuation of the test the front spigot pin has been sheared off also.

Exhaust silencers.
The rear exhaust silencer is fitted with concentric tubes, & is not bagged. The condition of the silencer is good.
