The front silencer lagging is in a delapidated condition. The aluminium cover has been torn away from the hands holding same. We recommend that this should be made of a stouter material.

silencer brackets are still in good condition.

Exhaust cut-out.
New exhaust cut-out operation to E.S. 2012/13.
No mechanical troubles have been experienced. It operates satisfactorily.

Exhaust snout & swan neck.
The exhaust snout, as previously reported, opened slightly in centre, does not appear to have opened out any further. The bolt holding swan neck to frame worked loose & was lost. We consider the exhaust noise is much quieter. As reported, there is a slight whistle from the exhaust at an approx. speed of 40 m.p.h.

Magneto & dynamo drive, to L.O.P. E.73297.
Control spring fitted to magneto to L.E.C. 1927.
Magneto drive is still good. No apparent deterioration in fabric joints has taken place. We are still of the opinion that the control spring effectively damps the impulses felt from the magneto on the control rods. The magneto is still rather noisy. Condition of magneto points is good.

Suspensions of engine.
From examination these are still in a good condition. Bolts have remained secure.

Autovac.
This has operated satisfactorily. Filter taken out & examined - small piece of fluff found adhering to same, but in no way did it interfere with our petrol supply.

Fan bracket, fan & fan belt.
The fan belt has been further adjusted up four turns of adjusting screw. It was not found necessary to scrape the belt. Joints oiled as instructed in the Instruction Book. The fan & fan bracket are still in good condition.

Slipper wheel & spring drive.
Dowelled slipper flywheel to L.E.C. 2131, otherwise to L.O.P. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 71202.
This is still working satisfactorily.

Dynamo.
We have had no trouble with dynamo. Output is satisfactory. Condition of brushes & brush gear is good. It has not been found necessary to dismantle the brushes.

Oil pump.
We have had no mechanical troubles with oil pump. Oil pressure failed at low speeds on one run, but this was found due to the release valve not functioning as it should.
