Description: TIN-COATED PISTONS. Purpose: To prevent piston scuffing. Brief Report and Remarks: Recent experiments show that by tin-coating the piston, scuffing of the skirt is avoided. This process will enable us to use any type of oil with safety and will also help in reducing the time necessary to "run-in" engines on test. Production Position and Comments: Tin coating of Pistons to reduce possibility of "scuffing" during "running in" is to be introduced at 25th. chassis in 'A' series, it being possible to tin coat finish machined pistons since deposit is only .0002 thick. No tool cost is involved, but Factory cost of plating is 3d. per piston. or 1/6d. per chassis. It is not recommended however, that present "running in" times for Production engines be reduced on account of impairing reliability. The above applies also to 25/30 HP. replacement pistons. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Authorisation to Proceed. Introduce on the 25 Chassis in A Series. Signature Sg.{Arthur F.
