Description: LIGHTER CLUTCH THRUST SPRINGS. Purpose: To provide smoother engagement with less tendency to judder. Brief Report and Remarks: During the last three months, a considerable number of sets have been fitted both to customers and trials cars. In every case, smoother engagement has been observed, and the lighter pedal pressure appreciated. The new spring. G.85733 is similar to the present spring G.82591, but provides a reduction of approx. 17% in total thrust. There is no difference in cost. When recommended for Introduction: As soon as possible. Report References: By Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Old Parts: Material £0.6.11., Total £0.6.11. New Parts: Material £0.4.3., Labour Bought outside, Total £0.4.3. Decrease in Cost £ 0. 2. 8. GIRH 18/8/38 Production Position and Comments: Cost of Tools £ NIL. Lighter clutch thrust springs to provide smoother engagement can be introduced without scrap at the 106th. chassis in 'D' Series. No extra Tool Cost is involved and existing springs surplus to 106 in 'D' can be converted to the new type by suitable heat treatment. Future supplies of new type springs purchased direct from makers will provide a saving of 2/8d. per chassis which will become effective subsequent to the 167th chassis in 'D' series when existing springs will be absorbed.
