-5- 18. Crankcase oil filler. N. receive criticisms of the length of time required to fill up with oil and also that oil is spilt during filling, owing to oil filler orifice not being horizontal. This will receive consideration, but it is doubtful whether much improvement would be made by altering the angle of the orifice. What is required is a more upright filler pipe of larger capacity as on Bentley and Wraith. This is not an easy matter to arrange owing to lack of space. A steel or bronze insert is called for. This is being looked into, in the meantime a copper asbestos washer should be used for the joint between the plug and casing. [Handwritten note]: ✓ 20. Fan bearings. N. ask for provision for lubricating these as they have complaints of noise due to dry bearings. It is considered advisable to repack the fan bearings with grease at 15,000 miles. This should be done when the engine is decarbonised. It is agreed that Phan.III. fan bearings require provision for retaining the grease, similar to Wraith which would permit the use of semi fluid lubricant such as Mobilgrease No.6. Difficulty is experienced in making this connection owing to inaccessible position, also the set screws securing the flanged piece rust and break. N. suggest an extension piece with union joint. This will receive consideration. [Handwritten note]: [squiggle mark] | ||
