BY/[strikethrough]AH.[/strikethrough] FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to [strikethrough]SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}[/strikethrough] HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [handwritten]X721[/handwritten] INDEPENDENT FRONT WHEEL SUSPENSION. We send herewith print of R.{Sir Henry Royce} Sch. 3620., quarter size general arrangement of R's system of independently sprung front wheels. While it is approximately correct in most respects it is not guaranteed to be so absolutely, but we send it to you in order that you may obtain if possible a general patent on the whole scheme. We are aware that triangles have been used to [strikethrough]connect[/strikethrough] [handwritten]centre of[/handwritten] the wheels by Delage and Itala, so that we do not expect a patent can be obtained on that. We think however that the use of a coil spring precisely in the position shewn, and also a controllable shock damper precisely in the position shewn, is novel, and probably a patent can be obtained covering the whole arrangement. We expect to send you a more [strikethrough]precise[/strikethrough] [handwritten]hitherto[/handwritten] drawing in the course of a short while. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
