-2- oil, almost half of it is in circulation. The sump is too shallow. RE. CHUNKING IN THE DRIVE. We will try and give you something definite. We have a fair amount of slack in the pinion of the rear axle, more than what we should think would be allowed in production. We are not free from chunking with the best possible slow running we can get. SPARKING PLUGS. We have sent you one report re. these, but cannot hasten the tests for carbonning up. We are doing our utmost to get results. BRAKES. Our braking is considerably improved, but we are not satisfied with it, and it will be a serious mistake if the sponginess of the rear mechanism is not gone into. You may; we do not doubt your results, have obtained reasonable braking, but it is quite possible that with your increased front braking, and a more efficient servo, you are missing the fatal weakness. We cannot get over the rear sponginess, and it has nothing to do with the pilot shoe. I'm very sorry that I ever brought it out. OIL LOSS FROM REAR OF ENGINE. We are still in the happy position of not losing more than a few drops of oil during a 500 mile run. We have fitted up the scoop permanently on the clutch cover, and have now deleted the tin for collecting the oil, and left a 3/16" drain hole. This hole is under the flywheel starter ring, not in the clutch part of the case, as there is a raised flange between the engine case and clutch case. WATER. We are satisfied that the water outlet pipe facing the front of the car cures water losses from the radiator. ROAD WHEELS. We are having a serious breaking of the spokes | ||
