Hancock - Head Chateauroux}12/KW.11.3.35. Cadillac. Re The Hydraulic Adjustable Tappets. Having reported fully upon the troubles experienced during the 6,000 miles with the hydraulic tappets (the actual mileage of the tappets up to that date being 12,043) in report reference Chateauroux, 10th December, 1934, I did not consider that a detailed report during the latter 6,000 miles of troubles experienced would be of the same value, considering the fact that we had a lot of trouble with the gudgeon pins and bushes. The metal worn off the bearings had got into the oiling system, which it was almost impossible to get rid of without dismantling the whole of the engine. The troubles we experienced during the latter part of the mileage with the hydraulic tappets were entirely due to foreign matter. We did eventually get rid of it by dismantling the rockers and the filter, washing carefully in paraffin each time. The hydraulic tappets then gave no further trouble during the remaining mileage.
