- 2 - HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/LK.{L. King}1/VS.{J. Vickers}6.5.38. Gearbox (Continued). The end float of the 3rd motion shaft gears is nil. The 3rd and 4th speed synchromesh mechanism is in satisfactory condition. 2nd Motion Shaft. G.55798. produced in S/N. material. The driving side of the splines has been rather badly worn by the constant mesh gear (see photograph attached). The wear on the diameters of the 2nd speed floating bushes does not exceed .001. The second speed driving gear is in good condition, as also are the 1st and 3rd speed driving gears. The reverse driving gear is satisfactory. The constant mesh gear is in good condition. The bedding on all gear teeth is satisfactory. Reverse Gears and Shaft. Condition good. The ball races fitted throughout the box appear to be in good condition. All overdrive gears have been magnetically tested and are free from cracks. The lightened type of servo drive fitted to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1698/9 is satisfactory. The bearing surfaces of the servo operating cams are badly marked. 2. Rear Brakes. To LOP.GB.2861, incorporating brake linings in Ferodo M.R.S. material. All parts on the near side brake mechanism are in good condition, the wear on the brake linings not being excessive. continued. | ||
