40/50 HP. CHASSIS - O.2. SERIES - INSTRUMENT PATCH.

In introducing the Smith patch for the 40/50 a necessary part of the change is the Smith electric petrol gauge - we are therefore handing to the Order Office (herewith) blueprints showing details of the 40/50 petrol tank to enable Smiths to calibrate an instrument suitably for the tank in question. We believe that they can satisfactorily calibrate an instrument from the blueprints we are submitting, but if they consider a complete tank is necessary one of these can be supplied if the Order office will let us know quickly.

It is important that the Experimental Dept. have a complete Smiths electric petrol gauge suitable for the 40/50 as soon as possible. This, of course, will include the unit for fitting into the tank, as well as the gauge.

The D.O. should proceed with the necessary drawings for the new form of patch, with Smith gauge, and having the improved lighting arrangement.

In the meantime the O.O. will order up the tank unit and gauge specified as above. The dimensions of the gauge will be similar to those on the 20/25, but calibrated for 20 gallons, which represents the 40/50 tank capacity.
